How to make Indian Masala Chai, also known as Chai Latte


Chai Latte is a blend made by brewing Assam Black tea with a mixture of aromatic spices and herbs. Traditionally this beverage was served during changing seasons as a tonic to stay healthy. According to the theories of Ayurveda traditional medicine, these herbs and spices provide energy and relief for common cold and sinus, digestive issues and more.

As the worldwide popularity of Masala Chai grew, so did the variation of recipes of it. Street and Train “tea” vendors in India are called Chai Wallah’s (Tea Person, just like a Barista of Chai).


Assam Black tea
Fennel Seeds
Freshly Crushed Ginger.



  1. Add 1 cup/ 8 oz of Fresh or Best tasting water along with desired amount of Chai Masala (Spices)* in a pot.

  2. Boil this mix between 195° and 212°F. (avoid Distilled water, due to its flat taste)

  3. *Add 4 teaspoons (20mg) of each Assam Black loose tea and Sugar / honey

  4. Add 1 cup/ 8 oz. of Soy Milk and bring to a boil. Remove from the heat

  5. Cover and allow to infuse for 3-5 minutes

  6. Strain the mixture and serve

  7. Sit back and enjoy each sip       



  • Using Organic Spices and tea will enhance the taste and health benefits.

  • *To make a strong tea, use additional loose tea rather than more brewing time, this will make the tea bitter. *Do Not reheat the tea.

  • Soy Milk can be substituted with other milk options.
